Cu Chi - Saigon City
- Your local English speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel early morning and then drive directly to Cu Chi district approximately 70 km for Ho Chi Minh City. On arrival watch an educational video outlining the history of the tunnels and how they were used during the American War. At its height the tunnel system stretched over 250km and was three levels deep. The network included innumerable trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers and kitchens. Today the remaining tunnels have become a major tourist attraction giving you a unique experience and a feel of what underground life in the American war must have been like. The tunnels have been widened for our benefit (otherwise westerners would not be able to enter them!) For those interested there’s even the opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range. At the end of the tour time to visit the souvenir store before return to the city central.
- After lunch at a local restaurant in Cu Chi, you will then visit the Fito Museum of Traditional Vietnamese medicine, War Museuma chilling reminder of the atrocities of war. It is then onto a famous Lacquer ware workshop to view this traditional craft being made and brose through the showroom. You will then travel to ‘The Paris Commune Square’ here you can view Notre Dame Cathedral, the City Central Post Office; two magnificent French colonial buildings. Then return to your hotel.
